AISI A8 Cold Work Tool Steel Round Bar

DIN12631 / AISI A8 is high strength, high chromium steel engineering plastic, forging special steel, is also a kind of oil-cooled, air-cooled hardened die steel. It is suitable for high cut-off cutting and forming processing, with high wear resistance and high toughness of multi-use high alloy die steel. AISI A8 has high haedness, excellent corrosion resistance, high temperature characteristics, and common hardness range is 52-58 HRC.

Cold rolling dies include cold punching dies, wire drawing dies, drawing dies, stamping dies, thread rolling dies, thread rolling plates, cold heading dies and cold extrusion dies. The steel used for cold work molds should have high hardness, strength, wear resistance, sufficient toughness, and high hardenability, hardenability and other process properties according to the working conditions of its manufacture. Cold work die steel has a high carbon content, and most of its structure belongs to hypereutectoid steel or ledeburite steel.

Ultrasonic Test: Material will be ultrasonically tested at appropriate stages of the manufacture to ensure the quality, as agreed between seller and purchaser.
Heat treatment
Hardness :Annealed(+A) max: 241BHN
Tool steel A8 when heat-treatment the preheat Temperature need reach 788°C, and the temperature may be ± 14 °C .
Tool steel A8 when austenitizing ,should keep 5-15 minutes long. If is the salt bath ,temperature should keep in the 996 °C, and shall be ± 5.6 °C. Or is the controlled atmosphere furnaces, temperature should keep in the 1010 °C, and shall be ± 5.6 °C.
Quenching: Tool steel A8 Hardening quenching using air cooling, and it's hardness min is 56 RC.
Tempering: Tool steel A8 general tempering temperature is 510°C. Double tempering of Double tempering of tool steel A8 is recommended.

Delivery condition
For hot forged bar, usually the delivery condition is hot forged, annealed rough turned/Black surface.
For hot rolled bar, usually the delivery condition is hot rolled, annealed, Black surface.
For hot forged plate, usually the delivery condition is hot forged, annealed, milled surface
For hot rolled plate, usually the delivery condition is hot rolled, annealed, black surface.
